Dan is frequently asked to speak at conferences and banquets across the country, making us laugh about the old rural community and the way it meets the modern world. He has a variety of talks, including “Farmer Thinking”, “A Stroll Down the Seventh Line of Persephone Township” and “Land and Stewardship.”
For 30 years and from more than a thousand platforms, Dan has entertained audiences ranging from the Perth County Holstein Club Ladies Night to the Muck Soils Research Station in Bradford. He has appeared for the Canadian Club, The Canadian Bar Association, Royal Bank, the Royal Winter Fair, the Outdoor Farm Show, the Writer’s Development Trust, Read for the Cure, the Farm Business Conference, Innovative Farmers of Ontario and many other organizations from B.C to the Maritimes. In 2014, he spoke to an audience of 2,000 for the church service held during the International Plowing Match in Stratford, Ont.
He served as the Mayor of Mariposa for 13 years at the Leacock Awards Banquet, following in the footsteps of Harry Boyle and Morley Torgov. Since the pandemic Dan has given talks to many service clubs, libraries and theatres as they venture back out into the world.
